Dabirsim fee halved due to smaller stamina laden second book

Haras de Grandcamp's Eric Lhermite shed light on the dramatic cut applied to the 2019 fee for the stud's exciting young sire Dabirsim on the Route des Etalons Normandy stud tour at the weekend.

The ten-year-old son of Hat Trick stood at Gestut Karlshof in Germany at a fee of €9,000 for the first two seasons of his stallion career, but moved to Grandcamp and covered at the same price for his third and fourth seasons.

After a stunning start for his first two-year-olds in 2017, capped by daughter Different League's victory in the Albany Stakes and second placing in the Cheveley Park Stakes, he was upped to €30,000 for 2018.

Last year another daughter, Coeur De Beaute, won the Prix Imprudence and finished runner-up in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and it was announced the sire would stand the 2019 season at €30,000 once again.

However, Dabirsim's fee has in recent weeks been revised downwards to €15,000.

Lhermite explained: “He covered a smaller second-season book in Germany with fewer mares who were less precocious and more bred for stamina so the results of that crop were somewhat in the shadow of the year before.

“But I am not at all concerned, because he has covered a lot of mares ever since he arrived in France and his first two-year-olds conceived here will run this year.

“He continued to cover big books in his both his second and third years in France. Last year at a fee of €30,000 he covered 188 mares and, just as importantly, mares with a lot of quality. I believe there are good things ahead for him.”

Dabirsim ranks as one of the best Sunday Silence-line stallions to have stood in Europe and, besides Coeur De Beaute and Different League, his first two crops have also yielded Group-placed Ivanka and Melodino as well as Not Mine, a close fifth in last year's Prix du Jockey Club who has since been sold to Hong Kong and renamed Packing Warrior.

Dabirsim has also tasted considerable success in the sales ring, with Different League sold for 1,500,000gns at the end of her juvenile season and two yearlings sold for €500,000 each in 2017, including the promising Newbury novice stakes winner Good Birthday.
