'Correct' filly first foal for Coventry scorer and young Coolmore sire Calyx
The filly is out of Listed winner We Are Ninety
Coventry Stakes winner Calyx sired his first foal when the Listed-winning We Are Ninety produced a filly described as "very correct" by manager Eddie Fitzpatrick on Monday night.
Fitzpatrick said: "[She's] a lovely dark bay with size and strength. She has a lovely head and is very correct too. Calyx is a very exciting stallion and he’s off to a good start.”
We Are Ninety, an eight-year-old by Thewayyouare, won three races for Hugo Palmer and owners Mrs Evie Stockwell and her sister Lady Mimi Manton, including the Listed Fillies Trial Stakes at Newbury, with subsequent Breeders' Cup heroine Queen's Trust back in fourth.
Calyx, who was the first son of Kingman to retire to stud, won three of his four starts including the Coventry - where he defeated the triple Group 1 scorer Advertise - and the Pavilion Stakes back at Ascot the following May.
The five-year-old is the fourth foal out of the Group 3 winning- Helleborine, a daughter of Observatory and a sister to the Group 1 scoring sprinter African Rose - and from the family of Dewhurst victor Distant Music.
Having retired due to injury after a second to Hello Youmzain in the Sandy Lane Stakes, Khalid Abdullah's homebred was sold to Coolmore in July 2019, where he now stands for a fee of €16,000.
Calyx covered a debut book of 163 mares last year, including 18 black type winners and eight Group scorers.
