Con Te Partiro heading straight for the Keeneland ring after racing retirement

It will be time to say a public goodbye to Con Te Partiro at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale after plans to run the globe-trotting mare at the Breeders’ Cup were scotched.

Adrian Bott, her joint-trainer with Gai Waterhouse, revealed that the six-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy’s racing career is over owing to "a little niggling issue after a gallop".

A winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic and Coolmore Legacy this year, as well as a Group 3 on her Australian debut in early 2019, Con Te Partiro moved from Wesley Ward’s US stable after being bought for $575,000 by SF Bloodstock and Newgate Farm at Fasig-Tipton’s mixed sale in Kentucky during November 2018.

She was a stakes winner and graded-placed in America along with successfully travelling to Royal Ascot in 2017 to land the Sandringham Handicap.

"Unfortunately over the weekend we’ve had to retire the mare, so she won’t be taking part in the Carnival any further," Bott told the SEN radio station in Australia.

"The original plan was to see her take her place in the Breeders’ Cup and then go through a sale over there, so she’s still going over there to go to the Keeneland Sale but unfortunately she won’t be racing in the Golden Pendant [at Rosehill this weekend] or anything else."

Bott suggested it was more a case of wear-and-tear at Con Te Partiro’s age and that she was really too valuable to risk further.

"She’s been great for us, she’s won her two Group 1s in her last campaign, done plenty of racing throughout the world. We just made the call," he added.
