Frankel leads sire standings as Juddmonte breeding comes to the fore
Without Parole and Monarchs Glen make it a double for the world champion
Frankel leads the sire standings after the first day of racing at Royal Ascot, with two winners on the board on Tuesday – Without Parole in the St James's Palace Stakes and Monarchs Glen in the Wolferton Stakes.
The Banstead Manor Stud stallion, a dual winner at the royal meeting himself, in the St James's Palace and Queen Anne Stakes, could continue to excel this week with Cracksman a warm order for the Prince of Wales's Stakes on Wednesday and the likes of Nelson, Sun Maiden and Wadilsafa also entered at the meeting.
Tuesday's Royal Ascot action paid plenty of compliments to the Banstead Manor Stud stallion roster past and present and Juddmonte bloodlines in general.
LEADING SIRES AT ROYAL ASCOT AFTER DAY ONE
TWO WINNERS
Frankel (Without Parole-G1, Monarchs Glen-LR)
ONE WINNER
Delegator (Accidental Agent-G1)
Shamardal (Blue Point-G1)
Kingman (Calyx-G2)
Footstepsinthesand (Lagostovegas-H'cap)
The much vaunted first crop of another St James's Palace Stakes winner – Kingman – yielded Calyx, Khalid Abdullah's homebred who scorched to victory in the Coventry Stakes. Calyx is out of a mare by former Banstead Manor resident Observatory.
Dansili – Frankel and Kingman's recently pensioned colleague at Banstead Manor – was on the mark with two third-place finishers: Muntahaa in the Wolferton Stakes and Stratum in the Ascot Stakes.
Furthermore, Dansili's credentials as a sire of sires were burnished by his late son Delegator supplying shock Queen Anne Stakes winner Accidental Agent.
Accidental Agent is also out of a mare by the Juddmonte-bred champion Xaar, who stood under the Darley banner after being sold to Sheikh Mohammed.
The exciting Juddmonte-bred young stallion Showcasing, who stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud, also made his mark through Coventry Stakes runner-up Advertise.
The other stallions who conjured up winners on day one of Royal Ascot were the two standout colts who hailed from the first crop of the recently deceased 'iron horse' Giant's Causeway.
Despite Shamardal and Footstepsinthesand both being Classic-winning milers, their winners on Tuesday came at polar opposite ends of the distance spectrum.
Shamardal, who stands on a private basis at Kildangan Stud, provided King's Stands Stakes hero Blue Point and Footstepsinthesand, a stalwart servant of Coolmore, was represented by Ascot Stakes winner Lagostovegas.
