Bradsell provides Tasleet with Royal Ascot compensation
Coventry Stakes winner is the first Group scorer for Shadwell's young sire
Tasleet, who was so narrowly denied his own Royal Ascot success in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, got sweet compensation on Tuesday when his first-crop son Bradsell claimed victory in the Coventry Stakes.
Shadwell Stud's Group 2 winner by Showcasing has made an exciting start to his stallion career with five winners from 15 runners headed by the now unbeaten Bradsell, who won his maiden by nine lengths for Archie Watson and was then purchased privately by Victorious Racing, in whose colours he starred in the Coventry.
Tasleet was bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud out of Bird Key, a Cadeaux Genereux half-sister to Anna Law, dam of King's Stand Stakes winner Battaash. Successful in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at two, he was purchased by Shadwell from his breeders for £52,000 as a yearling at Doncaster.
The Group 2 Duke of York Stakes and Group 3 Greenham Stakes winner stands for £5,000 at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud and has 69 two-year-olds to run for him this year.
It is Dubawi, however, who leads the sires' table after the first day of action at the royal meeting thanks to a double.
Darley homebred Coroebus became his sire's first 2,000 Guineas winner to double up in the St James's Palace Stakes in what was a thrilling finish to the mile contest for three-year-old colts.
Dubai Future later won the Wolferton Stakes for Saeed bin Suroor and Godolphin to ensure that his sire's opening day double came in black-type races.
There was a new name on the sires' table at Royal Ascot in the guise of Nicconi.
Widden Stud's Group 1 Lightning Stakes and AJC Galaxy Handicap winner by Bianconi is the sire of two individual Group 1 winners, with the star his brilliant son Nature Strip, who added the King's Stand Stakes to his eight Australian Group 1 victories.
