Aristia proves her value against some priceless pedigrees at Newbury
Book 2 purchase collars hot favourite Darlectable You
A sister to a string of winners was expected to land the first division of Newbury's red-hot Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Maiden Fillies' Stakes - only Aristia was not the one most would have had in mind.
Strong favourite for a ten-furlong event packed with beautiful pedigrees was the filly with the best one on offer in Darlectable You, the Lloyd-Webber family's Dubawi sister to not only juvenile champion and stallion Too Darn Hot but So Mi Dar and Lah Ti Dar, all bred out of the brilliant Dar Re Mi.
An ultra-promising second on her debut at Newcastle, she looked the likely winner for much of the way under Frankie Dettori until collared late home by the Richard Hannon newcomer.
Aristia is a daughter of Starspangledbanner who was bought for what suddenly looks a shrewd 85,000gns for owner Bunny Roberts at Tattersalls Book 2.
Bred by Rathasker Stud, she is out of the Kalanisi mare Aloisi, who ran in France and has produced five other winners around the world. Glorious Sinndar collected a Listed race in Australia, while Daybreak Boy has scored under both codes for Henry de Bromhead.
Dettori was on the right side of a bunched finish to the second division in what was a valuable debut victory for Bjorn Nielsen's home-bred Galileo filly Gloria Mundi.
The owner had acquired her King's Best dam Bufera from a dispersal of Citadel Stud at Goffs in 2013, the year in which her smart Group-performing daughter Chartreuse had been born.
