Alpinista the latest celebrity from star-studded Kirsten Rausing family

Fresh from toasting the Albany Stakes success of Sandrine at Royal Ascot, Kirsten Rausing recorded another important victory at Haydock on Saturday when her fourth generation homebred Frankel filly Alpinista struck in the Group 2 bet365 Lancashire Oaks.

The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Alpinista, the third generation of the family to be trained from Heath House Stables, is the first foal out of Alwilda, a daughter of former Lanwades Stud resident Hernando who won four races herself, most notably a Listed event at Cologne.

The dam hails from Rausing's illustrious 'Al' family, with Alwilda being out of the champion Albanova, who memorably landed three consecutive German Group 1 contests before going on to produce eight successful sons and daughters at paddocks, five of whom gained black type.

Albanova's best two offspring on Racing Post Ratings are both by Lanwades stallions, with the Group 3-winning Algometer by the late Archipenko, while the Listed-winning Alignak is by the roster's current leading light, Sea The Moon.

Albanova is, of course, a sister to Alborada, whose own remarkable racing career was headlined by winning back-to-back renewals of the Group 1 Champion Stakes.

Alborada's branch of the family supplied yet more black type for a pedigree already steeped in stakes success when her great granddaughter Albaflora, a sibling to Group 2 Park Hill Stakes victress Alyssa, Group 3 winner Alea Iacta and Listed scorer Aloe Vera, landed the Listed Buckhounds Stakes by clear water back in May.

Albanova and Alborada are out of Alouette, a Listed-winning daughter of the increasingly influential Alruccaba, who Rausing purchased as a three-year-old from the 1986 Tattersalls December Sales.

A whole slew of elite performers descend from Alruccaba, with her dual Group 2-winning daughter Last Second producing Aussie Rules, successful in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Shadwell Turf Mile, and Approach, dam of dual Group 1 winner Coronet, while another daughter, Intrigued, is the granddam of St Leger scorer Galileo Chrome.

Alruccaba is also the dam of Jude, whose brood include Group 1 winners Yesterday and Quarter Moon, who in turn is the dam of Pretty Polly Stakes heroine Diamondsandrubies. Another Group 1 winner descending from Alruccaba is Allegretto, whose daughter Cabaletta finished third to Alpinista on Saturday.

Prescott also trains Alpinista's two-year-old Kendargent half-sister Alpenblume, while their dam has also produced a colt by Oasis Dream, now a yearling, and she was among those in the first book of Lanwades' Classic-winning son of Deep Impact, Study Of Man.

Alpinista was already among Frankel's 72 black-type winners having landed a brace of Listed prizes, namely the Upavon and Daisy Warwick Fillies' Stakes, while she also finished runner-up to Love in last year's Yorkshire Oaks.

Her latest victory continues her sire's red-hot run of form, with Frankel currently leading the British and Irish sires' table, thanks in no small part to the Anglo-Irish Derby victories of Adayar and Hurricane Lane.

Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud resident, who stood the 2021 breeding season at a fee of £175,000, has also been represented in recent weeks by the likes of Mohaafeth, winner of the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, where Frankel was crowned leading sire, and the Listed scorers Juan Elcano and Outbox.
