Aidan O'Brien's latest two-year-old star has a just wonderful pedigree
Curragh scorer hails from the family of Galileo and Sea The Stars
Aidan O'Brien appears to have another classy two-year-old filly on his hands in Just Wonderful, whose pedigree lives up to her name.
The exciting prospect – installed as an 11-2 chance for the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot – was partnered by Ryan Moore to run out a determined winner by a neck of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden over 6f at the Curragh on Saturday.
The winning distance may have been small, but she deserves extra credit as she showed a little greenness and the fillies she beat into the places, Lethal Promise (by Invincible Spirit) and Gossamer Wings (Scat Daddy), had promising runs already under their belt.
Just Wonderful is by Banstead Manor Stud's recently retired stalwart Dansili, the source of 20 Group/Grade 1 winners and a sire O'Brien has enjoyed success with in the past, notably with Zoffany and the stakes-winning brothers Nevis and Words.
She was bred by Coolmore partnership Orpendale, Chelston and Wynatt and is the third foal out of Wading, who looked booked for bigger things when she won the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes of 2011 by two lengths for O'Brien, but would never run again.
Wading hails from the best family in modern breeding. She is by Montjeu out of Cherry Hinton, a Group 3-placed daughter of Green Desert and the phenomenal blue hen mare Urban Sea.
Cherry Hinton also produced Irish Oaks heroine Bracelet to Montjeu.
She is a half-sister to the exceptional talents Galileo and Sea The Stars and to other Group/Grade 1 winners Black Sam Bellamy and My Typhoon as well as the Classic-placed All Too Beautiful, Born To Sea and Melikah.
This is a family that consistently churns out quality and besides Just Wonderful, in 2018 it is also responsible for Craven Stakes winner and 2,000 Guineas third Masar – a great-grandson of Melikah – and Haras de Bouquetot Fillies Trial runner-up and Oaks entrant Athena, a Camelot three-parts sister to Wading.
