Afandem the first son of Zoffany to retire to stud in France
Listed winner was also third in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes
Afandem will become the first son of Zoffany to stand in France at Georges Lacombe's Haras de la Berthaudrie.
Smart beyond a mile, Afandem was trained by Jean-Claude Rouget for Al Shaqab Racing and won his first three starts, culminating in success in Listed Prix Ridgway at Compiegne.
Afandem was also a half-length second to Finche in the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte and third to Oscar Performance in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park.
Bred by the Robin family, Afandem was sold by La Motteraye Consignment to Al Shaqab Racing and Mandore International Agency for €130,000 at the 2015 Arqana August Yearling Sale.
The six-year-old Afandem is out of the Anabaa mare Miryale, the dam of smart dual-purpose performer Le Vagabond and a half-sister to Elliptique, a middle-distance Group 1 winner in Germany by New Approach who is now at stud, and the dual Listed-winning miler Cicerole.
Zoffany is also the progenitor of Bearstone Stud's Washington DC, while Afandem will commence stud duties at a €1,200 fee on a dual-purpose basis.
Lacombe is well known in Franch National Hunt circles having bred and raced the 2018 Anjou Loire Cross Country Challenge scorer Bucefal and the 2010 Grand Cross du Craon scorer Fassilado.
