A first stakes scorer for Mehmas as Method lands Rose Bowl
Tally-Ho Stud stallion has nine winners to his name
Method became the first stakes scorer for Tally-Ho Stud's freshman sire Mehmas when running out an impressive winner of the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
The sharp two-year-old started the odds-on favourite having impressed mightily on his debut at Doncaster last month, when he won a novice auction stakes by four and a quarter lengths.
The youngster showed the same turn of foot when bounding clear under Oisin Murphy on Saturday, his second win in as many starts for Martyn Meade and Manton Park Racing.
The Sepoy colt Mighty Gurkha gave him most to do in second, while the New Bay colt Imperial Yellow became a first black-type performer for his sire back in third.
Previous winners of the six-furlong sprint include the subsequent Pattern winners Limato (2014), Tasleet (2015) and last year's winner Shadn.
Method was bred by Michael Phelan out of the Iffraaj mare Darsan, a winning half-sister to stakes winners Bella Tusa and La Vita E Bella, the latter also the granddam of Group 2 Lennox Stakes scorer Dutch Connection.
Western Thoroughbreds purchased Method as a foal for €16,000 at the Goffs November Sale. The following year he caught the eye of Dermot Farrington when offered by Whatton Manor Stud at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, with the agent signing the docket at £20,000.
Darsan also has a Belardo yearling colt, who was an €8,000 foal purchase for Peter Cluskey from Pipe View Stud at the Goffs November Sale.
Mehmas, whose nine winners to date is the most of any first-season sire in Europe this year, is also the sire of Windsor Castle Stakes third Muker.
The son of Acclamation won both the July and Richmond Stakes and stood his fourth season at Tally-Ho Stud this year at a €7,500 fee, having stood for €12,500 in first year and for €10,000 in his second and third year.
Three other first-season sires in Europe have supplied a stakes winner.
Ballyhane Stud's Prince Of Lir made buyers sit up and take notice when his son The Lir Jet joined him on the Norfolk Stakes roll of honour.
Haras de Colleville's Goken sired the first and second home in the Group 3 Prix du Bois at Longchamp in which the filly Livachope defeated her paternal half-brother Axdavali. Livachope was following up on her win in the Listed Prix La Fleche at Chantilly, while Goken has a third stakes performer to his name in the Listed-placed Go Athletico.
Cheveley Park Stud's Twilight Son, meanwhile, is responsible for the Italian Group 3 winner Aria Importante and the Listed-placed Grammata.
