3,000gns Tattersalls July Sale buy Kitty Marion strikes in Baden-Baden Group 3
The daughter of Iffraaj is out of a winning half-sister to Wootton Bassett
Kitty Marion cost just 3,000gns from Godolphin at last year's Tattersalls July Horses in Training Sale, and the shrewd purchase paid off spectacularly when the daughter of Iffraaj took top honours in the Group 3 Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche on Saturday.
Always travelling strongly under Vaclav Janacek, the five-year-old came home a head in front of Jaber Abdullah's Majestic Colt, with over four lengths back to the third-placed Manjeer, a gelded son of Footstepsinthesand.
Kitty Marion was bred by Glebe Stud Co Ltd, J F Dean and Lady Trenchard and sold to Anthony Stroud for 28,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Sent into training with Henri-Alex Pantall, she won on her first start for the Frenchman in March 2020 and ran twice more before being offered at the July Sale.
Picked up by Edgar Byrne, Kitty Marion was second on her first start for champion Spanish trainer Guillermo Arizkorreta Elosegui in a Listed contest at San Siro before another fine effort when fourth at La Zarzuela.
The delighted winning trainer said: "We picked her up from Tattersalls and since we dropped her in trip she's improved a lot. She jumped out very quick today and was very brave."
Kitty Marion is the third foal out of Pretty Primo, a winning Kyllachy half-sister to Group 1 winner and Coolmore sire Wootton Bassett among nine winners.
Pretty Primo, in turn bred by Laundry Cottage Stud Farm, was a £120,000 purchase by Dwayne Woods from the DBS Yearling Sale before selling to Glebe Stud from Brook Stud for 65,000gns at the 2013 Tattersalls December Mare Sale.
She was subsequently represented at the 2017 renewal when selling to Orchardstown Farms for 12,000gns.
A winner and Listed runner for Richard Hannon snr, Pretty Primo has produced two offspring to have made the track. Her three-year-old Helmet filly, Polka Polka Polka, was exported to Germany.
Waldbiene, meanwhile, continued a fine run of form for Haras de Saint Pair when winning the feature Group 2 Zastrow Stuttenpreis.
The daughter of Intello was picked up for €110,000 by Panorama Bloodstock at the 2019 Arqana August Yearling Sale and is the sixth foal out of the Group-placed Waldjagd, a half-sister to Waldpark and Waldmark, the dam of Masked Marvel and Waldlerche.
Big 24 hours for Weltmacht
Just 24 hours after her Reliable Man half-sister sold at the BBAG Sale for €220,000, the two-year-old Wagnis came home well on her debut in the second race at Baden-Baden, capping an excellent week for her dam, the Mount Nelson mare Weltmacht.
A daughter of the much-missed Adlerflug and the Listed-winning Weltmacht - a daughter of German Group 2 winner Wild Side and a half-sister to Park Hill Stakes heroine Wild Coco - the filly is a half-sister to this season's Blue Riband Trial scorer Wirko.
Weltmacht has a filly foal at foot by Ballylinch Stud resident and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Waldgeist. She is currently in foal to Soldier Hollow.
