'It's very exciting' - Darley America announces 2023 fees for 11-strong roster
Stalwart sire Medaglia D’Oro once again tops the roster at $100,000
Darley’s Jonabell Farm has released its fees for 2023, when 11 stallions will be standing at the Kentucky Stud, including two new prospects in Grade 1 winners Speaker’s Corner and Mystic Guide.
A fee for future Darley sire and Grade 1 Forego Stakes scorer Cody’s Wish will be announced after the Breeders' Cup.
Darley sales manager Darren Fox said: "We’ve been very fortunate in the last two years to have produced five high-level performers and it’s even more gratifying that they are all homebreds. Following last year’s retirement of Essential Quality and Maxfield, to again be able to add more top-calibre horses is very exciting."
Heading the roster is Medaglia D’Oro, who will stand at $100,000 for the second year in a row. The sire of 22 Graded horses in 2022, his top performers this year include Hong Kong Horse of the Year and six-time top-level winner Golden Sixty.
Speaker's Corner retires as the fastest son of Street Sense and the winner of six of his 13 starts. Out of the Bernardini mare Tyburn Brook, a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Round Pond, he won a red-hot Belmont maiden that included five stakes scorers before two wins at three and then landed his first three starts at four, including the Grade 1 Carter Handicap. He will stand for an opening fee of $20,000.
Mystic Guide, the winner of last year's Dubai World Cup, will stand at a fee of $15,000. The son of Ghostzapper won four of his nine starts and placed a further five times, with other victories including the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes and Grade 3 Razorback Handicap before his Meydan triumph.
The consistent Midshipman will have his fee raised to $20,000 for 2023. He has sired 19 black-type horses this year and has a 16 per cent strike-rate of those performers to runners.
Eclipse champion Essential Quality and the top-class Maxfield remain at $75,000 and $40,000 for their second years at stud following full first-year books this term, while Street Sense stays at $75,000 following yet another successful year on the track and in the sales ring.
