Arc prospect fuels fresh dreams for a famous operation moving with the times
Tom Peacock speaks to Charles-Henri de Moussac on the sale of Haras du Mezeray
One of the most exciting among the French generation of three-year-old colts might be spending a little longer on the sidelines just for now, but there is less concern that the celebrated silks which Fenelon carries will be consigned to the past any time soon.
Nicolas Clement's colt, who has won both his starts this year, is the latest great hope for the Moussac family, whose yellow and black bumblebee colours will be immediately associated by those of a certain vintage with the Pat Eddery-ridden Trempolino, who broke Dancing Brave's track record when thrashing a field including Tony Bin, Tryptych, Mtoto and the Derby winner Reference Point in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 34 years ago.
The family have been involved in breeding and ownership for many decades, with Paul de Moussac founding Haras du Mezeray in Normandy in 1962 and creating an establishment which has regularly topped the leaderboard at Arqana's August Yearling Sale as well as racing many high-class animals of its own.
