Gary Robinson’s lifetime in the world of engineering could soon reach its pinnacle with his role in the development of revolutionary building blocks which can withstand blast and ballistic attack.

His 20-year project in breeding horses is set for the final testing of its own master product too when Desert Crown steps on to the turf for the Cazoo Derby.

Bred by Strawberry Fields Stud, Robinson’s premises just outside Cambridge, the hot favourite arrives after an impressive win in the Dante Stakes, but nowhere quite proves whether a colt is made of the right sort of material like Epsom on the first Saturday in June.
