It is often the way when you settle into a more safe and sensible job. There’s still the need for the odd adrenaline rush, that little itch to be scratched.
For George Peckham, who gave back his licence at the beginning of 2019 after five years training a small private string in Newmarket for Fawzi Nass, his fix comes in the shape of his first ever breeze-up prospect, a Prince Of Lir colt who will be put through his paces at this month’s Tattersalls Craven Sale.
If out of the front-facing limelight, Peckham is very much still in the thick of the action at Headquarters, renting 60 boxes on the Hamilton Road and a small stud at nearby Cheveley for breaking, pre-training and rehabilitation for horses from many of the major names in the directory.
