This weekend brings up the 20th anniversary of Galileo's landmark Derby victory. He retired to Coolmore the following year and over the course of the 16 full crops of racing age he has sired since, he has reshaped the thoroughbred landscape with a list of achievements hitherto deemed unthinkable.
His domination has reached such a level that he has long since been considered the greatest stallion in the world, but a more detailed examination of the facts is required to bring the full extent of Galileo's success to life.
When the great Danehill, a former Coolmore studmate of Galileo, sired his 84th individual Group/Grade 1 winner with Australian Cup hero Zipping on March 13, 2010, many believed the son of Danzig had set a record that would never be surpassed.
