James Thomas crunches the numbers behind a big season for Tally-Ho's kingpin
It is often said that a stallion has had to achieve success the hard way, but rarely has that been so true as in the case of Kodiac, the Tally-Ho Stud resident who has risen from humble beginnings to blue-chip status.
In 2017 Kodiac commanded the attention of the biggest breeders around by siring a benchmark-busting 61 two-year-old winners, ten more than the previous world record holder, the influential Sunday Silence, managed in 2004.
But, while that will forever rank as a defining season in Kodiac's stallion career, his success seems all the more remarkable when you consider not only where he started but that the best may well be to come.
