Fasig-Tipton: MV Magnier swoops for Rushing Fall at $5,500,000
On a day where seven-figure lots ruled the roost at Fasig-Tipton, MV Magnier got in on the action when buying the five-time Grade 1-winning Rushing Fall.
The 2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf victress, offered by Indian Creek, was knocked down to agent Jamie McCalmont for $5,500,000 and - having won a top level event from the ages of two to five - looks a highly valuable investment for the Coolmore operation.
Rushing Fall was unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile and followed up with the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at three before adding four more Grade 1 wins to her name, including when defeating Sistercharlie into third in the Diana Stakes in August. She was pipped by James Fanshawe's Audarya in Saturday's Filly & Mare Turf.
Last year's Eclipse Champion Older Dirt Female Midnight Bisou was not far behind when realising $5,000,000 to Chuck Allen. Offered by ELiTE, the five-year-old retired this year as the leading North American-based dirt female of all time and finished in the top three in all of her 21 starts.
Bast took the top broodmare price when selling to Spendthrift Farm for $4,200,000. The winner of three Grade 1 contests last year, the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency-consigned three-year-old is currently carrying to Triple Crown winner Justify.
Last year's Breeders' Cup Mile heroine Uni was another top-class racemare and broodmare prospect to garner plenty of attention. The ELiTE-consigned six-year-old was purchased by Peter Brant's White Birch Farm at $4,100,000, having won 11 of her 22 starts on the track.
