Deutsches Derby winner Sisfahan is the most recent addition to the catalogue for Auctav's upcoming National Hunt sale with the six-year-old entire joining sires Martinborough and Morpheus in the auction which takes place on Friday, September 20 at Haras du Bois Roussel in Normandy.

As well as his Hamburg triumph for trainer Henk Grewe and Darius Racing, he also won the Group 2 Gran Premio del Jockey Club at the San Siro and was placed at the highest level behind two Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winners; Torquator Tasso in the Grosser Preis von Baden and Alpinista in the Preis von Europa.

Sisfahan was also runner-up to Simca Mille in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin last season at the age of five.

From the first crop of another Deutsches Derby winner in Isfahan, he was bred by Guy Pariente out of the Kendargent mare Kendalee, who was twice successful over jumps and is a half-sister to the Grade 1 Prix Cambaceres winner Beaumec De Houelle, who is a promising young National Hunt sire at Haras de Montaigu.

That familial connection is an important consideration for his future prospects according to Nastasja Volz-Degel of Gestuet Ohlerweiherhof, who are consigning the chestnut.

"Sisfahan is an exceptional Group 1 horse, both tough and resilient," she said. "He competed in the best and toughest races in Germany, as well as on many of the world’s most famous racetracks.

"Sisfahan has a very positive character and an exceptionally intelligent mindset. With his stamina and extraordinary speed, he would make a perfect stallion for breeding horses for Classic distances or jumps."

He is the second stallion wildcard announced ahead of the sale following news that Martinborough, who stood the most recent breeding season at Haras de la Baie, would also be put up for auction.

The son of Deep Impact sired his first Cheltenham Festival  and Grade 1 winner earlier this year when Majborough overturned Dublin Racing Festival form with Kargese to prevail in the Triumph Hurdle for Willie Mullins and JP McManus.

A dual Group 3 winner in Japan, Martinborough has also sired the Grade 3 Saratoga Oaks winner and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary runner-up Elusive Princess.

Now 15, he has spent the majority of his stallion career at Haras de Grandcamp and boasts an outstanding pedigree. He is a half-brother to Halwa Sweet and the daughter of Machiavellian has excelled herself as a broodmare with three individual Group 1-winning offspring.

Two of them – Dubai Turf and Shuka Sho winner Vivlos and the dual Victoria Mile winner Verxina – are by Deep Impact while the third, the Japan Cup victor Cheval Grand, is a son of Heart's Cry.

Martinborough is a full-brother of the Group 3 winner Frere Jacques and their dam, Halwa Song, is an unraced Nureyev half-sister to Mezzo Soprano, successful in the Prix Vermeille.

His second dam Morn Of Song is a Blushing Groom full-sister to Rahy and half-sister to In The Wings and Martinborough is being offered by Haras de la Baie.

Morpheus was among the initial entries for the sale and the Oasis Dream half-brother to champion sire Frankel and Group 1 winner and sire Noble Mission leads off the catalogue as the first lot from Haras de la Beavoisiniere.

He is a full-brother to the Listed winner Joyeuse who has become a good broodmare for Juddmonte producing last season's Mill Reef winner Array and Jouncy, who was second in the Sirenia Stakes a week ago.

Joyeuse is also the dam of the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes and Doomben Cup second Maximal by Frankel's sire Galileo and Jubiloso, her daughter with Shamardal, was third in the Coronation Stakes.

Morpheus and Joyeuse are very closely related to this season's Jersey Stakes second Kikkuli by Kingman, and the final foal out of Kind.

A triple winner at around a mile, Morpheus retired to Tally Ho Stud for 2015 and spent four seasons at the O'Callaghans' farm before moving to France. He has been in Italy for the last two years, standing at Allevamenti della Berardenga.

Still only 14, he is the sire of the Listed-placed Shimmering Dawn on the Flat while over jumps his best performer is the Grade 1 Gran Premio Merano winner Lemhi Pass.

The catalogue for the sale is available here.
