Naughtinesse another nice prospect for prolific dam Dalamine
Fairyhouse bumper winner is a half-sister to Don Poli
Naughtinesse became the sixth winner from nine runners produced by her remarkable dam Dalamine with an impressive and commanding victory in the bumper at Fairyhouse for Lorna Fowler.
Dalamine's offspring are headed by the triple Grade 1 winning chaser Don Poli, a son of Poliglote, whose victories included Cheltenham's RSA (now Brown Advisory) Chase and the Lexus (Savills) Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival.
The timing of Naughtinesse's victory was perfect as the centrepiece of the afternoon's racing was the Grade 3 John and Chich Fowler Memorial Mares' Chase, which commemorates co-breeder and part-owner Harry Fowler's late parents.
"It's a great day," remarked the winning trainer, who is also the wife of Harry Fowler. "Sometimes you have a day with a bit of sentiment, like today with the Fowler race, and you think it would be great if it all fits and it did fit."
Naughtinesse is by Overbury Stud's retired star Kayf Tara, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Saturday, and was bred by Harry Fowler and Alex Frost out of the Sillery mare who they bought for just €16,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale in 2013 from Mill House Stud as part of a dispersal.
Since they snapped up Dalamine, a winning sister to Auteuil Grade 2 winner Multipass, Don Poli emerged on the scene and the Beat Hollow foal she was carrying at the time they purchased her is now the Grade 2-placed Politesse, who is also trained by Lorna Fowler and she highlighted the similar attitudes of both fillies.
"She's very professional. The family all have a never-say-die attitude. Her sister, Politesse, is much bigger and very different but very similar also. They give it everything."
Naughtinesse is a sister to the Sefton Novices' Hurdle third Debece and Alighting, who was third in the Listed Quevega Mares' Hurdle.
At the 2021 Derby Sale, Dalamine's Beat Hollow gelding made €95,000 to Ballycrystal Stables and she also has a now three-year-old Jukebox Jury colt and a filly from the first crop of Crystal Ocean.
Naughtinesse will be given the opportunity to add further black type to her family on her next start.
"We will stay in bumpers and, all being well, she will go to the Dublin Racing Festival now," Fowler added.
