Galileo surpasses Sadler's Wells with 74th worldwide Group 1 winner
Magical landed the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot
Galileo moved past his sire, Sadler's Wells, as Magical won the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on Saturday to become his 74th worldwide Group/Grade 1 winner.
Coolmore's champion sire matched his father's record last month when Flag Of Honour took the Irish St Leger and is now in hot pursuit of the all-time mark of 84, set by another great in Danehill.
Watch Magical deliver a landmark Group 1 win for Galileo
Magical has long looked a Group 1 winner in waiting for Galileo, having tried and failed at the highest level five times previously and she finally delivered at Ascot's end-of-season showpiece, defeating a pair of Dubawi fillies in Coronet and Lah Ti Dar in the process.
Out of the Pivotal mare Halfway To Heaven, herself a three-time Group 1 winner, Magical is a sister to Rhododendron among others.
Galileo has sired a total of 31 female Group 1 winners, with 43 colts and geldings, with Magical his 32nd top level scorer in Britain, more than in any other jurisdiction.
