Dee Ex Bee to receive strong support from Taylor as he begins stud career

Derby runner-up Dee Ex Bee is set to cover some beautifully bred mares at Arctic Tack Stud after his owner, Douglas Taylor, purchased a number of high-class broodmares at this week's Tattersalls December Mares' Sale.

Among the highlights of the first book of mares for the Sagaro and Henry VII Stakes winner is Zam Zoom, the dam of eight-time Grade 1-winning hurdler Nichols Canyon.

The 16-year-old daughter of Dalakhani was purchased by Taylor from Godolphin for 65,000gns and is in foal to Ghaiyyath. As well as the star-crossed Authorized gelding, Zam Zoom is the dam of Irish St Leger second Fujaira Prince and Bright Approach, who was third in the Cheshire Oaks.

Taylor's other Tattersalls' purchase received a timely pedigree update when her first foal won the Wildflower Stakes at Kempton. Coral Garden cost Taylor 40,000gns, while her four-year-old Night Of Thunder filly Garden Paradise gained her first black type success for James Tate and Saeed Manana on Wednesday.

Coral Garden is a Halling full-sister to Group 2 winner and Ascot Gold Cup second Coastal Path, a Grade 1 sire, and a half-sister to the brilliant stallion Martaline and Prix du Cadran winner and sire Reefscape.

It is one of Juddmonte's most prolific stallion-producing families; their dam is a Sadler's Wells full-sister to Trellis Bay, the second dam of New Bay, and she is also a half-sister to Hope, the dam of Oasis Dream and second dam of Kingman, and Oaks winner Wemyss Bight, dam of Group 1 winner and sire Beat Hollow whose son Minella Indo won last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The purchases continue Taylor's policy of strongly and publicly supporting his stallions following on from his purchase of Grade 1 winner Laurina, for a then sale record price for a mare of €290,000 at the 2020 Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale.

The daughter of Spanish Moon was one of 279 mares covered by Taylor's other sire Jet Away, at Arctic Tack Stud last spring.

“How do you expect anyone to support your stallions if you don’t yourself,” said Taylor. “I have supported my stallions and breeders since I started in this business and I will continue to do so.”

Dee Ex Bee, who was placed in six Group 1 contests, including behind Stradivarius in the Ascot Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup, was bred by Darley and is a son of Farhh. His dam Dubai Sunrise is a full sister to Dubai Millennium and descended from blue hen Fall Aspen.

His opening fee has been set at €3,500 with concessions for filly foals while Jet Away's 2022 fee is available on application.
