Classic victory for National Stud's Aclaim as gallant Cachet tops the charts

Cachet has a habit of making everything a first - the filly was her sire's very first winner, his very first Group winner, and now she has written herself into the history books by becoming National Stud sire Aclaim's first Classic winner after scorching to 1,000 Guineas glory.

Aclaim retired to the National Stud for the 2018 breeding season after a career that saw him land the Prix de la Foret, Park and Challenge Stakes for Martyn Meade and Canning Downs and Partner.

The son of Acclamation, who stands for a fee of £6,000 this term, has sired four stakes performers to date from his first crop, including his Classic-winning daughter, who finished third behind Inspiral in the Fillies' Mile and second to Hello You in the Rockfel Stakes as a two-year-old.

The George Boughey-trained Cachet had landed the Nell Gwyn Stakes this term and built on that on the Rowley Mile on Sunday, being there to be shot at out in front but keeping on gamely in the Highclere silks under James Doyle.

Bred by Dermot Farrington and Canning Downs, the nine-year-old Aclaim was a €130,000 purchase by Stephen Hillen from Swordlestown Stud at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2014.

Cachet is another stunning recent advert for the breeze-ups, having sold to Highclere for 60,000gns from breeder Hyde Park Stud at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale last April.

Hyde Park Stud bought her dam, the placed Teofilo mare Poyle Sophie, for just 3,000gns from the National Stud at the 2018 Tattersalls December Mare Sale, with the subsequent Classic heroine in utero.

Poyle Sophie, who was placed over a mile and a half on the all-weather for Ralph Beckett, has had three foals, with four-year-old Farhh filly Sophie a once-raced performer last year. She is a half-sister to four winners and hails from the family of Lowther Stakes heroine Jemima.

The result was the conclusion to a remarkable weekend for Teofilo as a broodmare sire, with his Group 3-winning daughter First Victory producing 2,000 Guineas hero Coroebus, Listed scorer Livia's Dream responsible for the preceding Dahlia Stakes victress Dreamloper and, earlier on in the day, the Australian Group 1-placed Bahamas producing Hong Kong Group victor Senor Toba.

Teofilo now has three Classic winners to his name as a broodmare sire, following on from last year's Irish Derby hero Mac Swiney.
